Getting started
Create a workflow, add and set up a neuron, run it and check the result.
Getting started walks you through your first workflow on the canvas: create it, add a neuron, set it up, run it and check the result.
Three ways to start a workflow
- Describe it. On Home, type what the workflow should do in the box at the top and click Create workflow, or choose Describe to create in the app bar's Create menu. The AI builds the neurons for you.
- Start blank. Click Start blank on Home, New workflow on the My workflows page, or New workflow in the app bar's Create menu, for an empty canvas when you already know the shape of what you want to build.
- Use a ready-made agent. Choose Agent from the Store in the Create menu (or Use a ready-made agent on a new account's Home) for an agent that already does the job, and run it from My agents.
The Get started checklist on Home tracks these steps. To open it again, choose Get started checklist in the account menu. See Home and the app bar.
Build it with me
New accounts start with a guided build: it opens a new workflow called "My first workflow" and walks you through building two connected neurons, one that writes a short story and one that turns it into an image, then runs them. The guide opens each stage for you, can add a neuron for you, and shows sample text with a Copy button. Press Skip this step or Skip guide at any time, or Escape to fold it away and Resume guide later. It needs a wider window: on a phone, or in the list view, it asks you to widen the window. To run it again, open Help in the canvas's left rail and click Build it with me: on an empty workflow it starts there; otherwise it opens a new workflow. On a phone, open More in the top bar and choose Help and guides.
Steps
- 1. Create a workflow
On Home, describe what you want in the box at the top and click "Create workflow" to have the AI build a whole workflow from your words, or click "Start blank" for an empty canvas. You can also click "New workflow" on the My workflows page, or "Create" (the + button) in the app bar.
- 2. Add a neuron
In the canvas top bar, click "Add" and then "Neuron", or double-click an empty spot on the canvas. A new neuron comes with all five nodes ready to set up: START, GET, DO, MAKE and SEND.
- 3. Set up the neuron
Click a node on the neuron card to open its settings panel. In GET, add the input. In DO, write the instructions. In MAKE, pick the kind of result. In SEND, pick where the result goes.
- 4. Run it
Open START and press "Play", or use the run button in the top bar ("Run flow", or "Run" plus the selected neuron's name). Neurons connected after it start on their own as each one finishes. If an input has a queue, "Play all queued" runs the neuron once for each queued value.
- 5. Check the result and improve it
The result shows on the neuron card and under "Last output" in MAKE. Click "View full output" to read all of it. If it is not quite right, change the DO instructions or the GET inputs and run again.
Describe to Create
Describe to Create builds a whole workflow from a description. Use it when you are not sure where to start.
- Open the app bar's Create menu and choose Describe to create, or press Ctrl+K (⌘K on a Mac) and choose Describe to create. On Home you can instead type your description in the box at the top and click Create workflow: generation starts straight away with that text, so steps 2 to 5 are skipped.
- Optionally type a Workflow Name.
- Under Describe what the workflow should do, say what goes in, what the AI should do with it, and where the result should go. The more specific you are, the better the result.
- Optionally open Advanced options to choose the Preferred Input Types, the Expected Output Types, the Send / Delivery Channels and the Number of Steps.
- Click Create Workflow. Generation runs through a few stages and then opens the new workflow on the canvas.
- Check each neuron's settings, run the workflow once, and change what needs changing.
Example descriptions:
- "Summarise PDF reports and email me a bullet-point summary each morning."
- "Take customer feedback, work out whether it is positive or negative, and send negative feedback to my support inbox."
- "Turn uploaded audio files into English text and save it to a table."
- "Draft a short, friendly social media post about a topic I give you."
Duplicate a workflow
Duplicating a workflow makes a full copy you can change without touching the original.
- Open Automations and then My workflows.
- On the workflow's card, open its menu (More actions) and choose Duplicate.
The copy has its own neurons and its own copy of the workflow's Docs (documents, files, pictures and dashboards; dashboard data starts empty) and Memory, so changing or deleting either workflow never affects the other. Results of earlier runs, schedules, app events and saved versions are not copied, and each webhook gets a new address. If the Memory does not fit in your remaining memory space, you see a warning. If the copied Docs don't fit your storage, the workflow isn't duplicated and you see why.
Limits
- Workflow name: up to 100 characters.
- Describe to Create description: up to 50,000 characters.
- Docs copied when you duplicate: they count toward the storage limit of the new workflow and toward your total storage.
- Memory copied when you duplicate: a workflow holds up to 50 MB of memory, and all your workflows and agents together hold up to 200 MB.
Common problems
Describe to Create can't be stopped
While Describe to Create is still queued, Stop generation cancels it. Once generation has started, it can no longer be stopped: wait for it to finish, then change or delete the workflow it made.
The neuron I added has no settings yet
A new neuron starts empty. Click its nodes one by one (START, GET, DO, MAKE, SEND) to set it up, or use Add neuron in the Neurons section, which asks five short questions first.
A new neuron's run keeps waiting
A run waits until every input marked Required in GET has a value. Open GET and fill in those inputs, or turn Required off.
