Data types

The kinds of input a neuron can take in GET and the kinds of result it can make in MAKE.

A neuron's inputs and results each have a type. The input types are set per input in GET; the result type is set once in MAKE. Which result types you can pick depends on the input types.

Input types in GET

Choose an input's type in GET with Change input type:

  • Text: typed text. Type it on the card or in GET.
  • PDF: a PDF file.
  • Image: a JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, SVG or WebP image.
  • Audio file: an MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG or FLAC file.
  • Voice recording: audio you record in the app with your microphone.
  • Table: a table from this workflow's Docs, or a CSV or Excel file that becomes a new table.

Changing an input's type clears its current value.

Upload, replace or download an input file

  1. On the input, click the upload area (Click or drop to upload), or drop a file on it.
  2. To swap the file, click Replace (or Click or drop to replace).
  3. Click the file to preview or download it.

Record a voice input

  1. Set the input type to Voice recording.
  2. Click Record and allow the microphone if your browser asks.
  3. Click Stop to keep the recording, or Discard to throw it away.
  4. To record again, click the input (Record again to replace it).

Table inputs

A table input reads rows from a table.

  1. Set the input type to Table.
  2. Under Table document, choose a table from this workflow's Docs, or click Upload a CSV or Excel file to create a new table. On the neuron card, Pick a table offers the same tables and Upload a CSV. See Documents.

See Documents for creating and editing tables.

Result types in MAKE

Choose the result type in MAKE under Active output:

  • Text: written text, such as a summary, a reply or a list.
  • Image: a generated image.
  • Audio: generated speech.
  • Table: rows and columns, which SEND can write into a table.
  • PDF: a PDF file that a Code neuron's code builds. See Code neurons.
  • Decision: picks one of your named conditions, so only the neurons on that path run. See Neuron nodes.

Changing the result type clears the current result.

Limits

  • File upload: up to 32 MB per file.
  • Text input: up to 50,000 characters.
  • Table upload: up to 25 MB per file.
  • Rows the AI reads from a table: the first 500 rows of a table on each run.

Common problems

Only CSV files can be imported as a table

Upload a CSV on the neuron card takes CSV files only. The upload under Table document in GET, and Upload in Docs, take Excel files too.

The microphone doesn't record

If the browser blocks the microphone, allow it from the microphone icon in the address bar, then try again. If no microphone is found, check that one is connected. Some browsers can't record audio: use Chrome or Safari.

A file type is refused

Each input type takes only its own file types. For example, an Image input refuses a PDF. Change the input type, or upload a file of the right type.

Some input types can't make every result type

Which result types MAKE offers depends on the input types in GET. If the result type you want isn't offered, change the inputs or split the work over two neurons.
